Box Score Senior Lauren Strowder logged a game-high 19 kills in Denison's 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-19) shutout victory over Allegheny College on Saturday afternoon in Granville.
Denison controlled the majority of the first set en route to a four-point victory. In the second set, the Big Red took a commanding 20-9 lead. However, a seven-point Gator rally trimmed the deficit to 20-16. Trailing 21-16, Allegheny engineered a 6-2 run to make it a one-point game. However, DU rattled off back-to-back points to secure the victory. Senior Megan Early registered a solo block to cap off the game-two win. In the third set, the Gators showed signs of life early, but the Denison attack proved to be too much as they secured the straight-set win.
In addition to her 19 kills, Strowder also compiled a .343 attack percentage, logged four digs and one block. Senior setter Claire Koneval dished out a game-high 49 assists. Defensively, seniors Brooke Beavers and Brittany Brannon logged 24 and 10 digs, respectively, while Lauren Gustafson and Madison Owen each had two blocks.
Brynne Hazzard and Caitlin Rothman each had five kills to pace the Gator offense, while Madie Hudac had 21 assists. Defensively, Winnie Wong and Katelynn Long had 25 and 18 digs, respectively.
Denison improves to 9-8 overall and 4-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Allegheny falls to 6-12 on the year and 1-5 in the league. The Big Red returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 4) when they travel to Wooster for a 7 p.m. match.
