The Denison volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-1 decision on the final day of the Kenyon College Invitational in Gambier, Ohio.  The Big Red fell in their opener to Ursuline (23-25, 25-22, 27-25, 28-26), suffered a setback to Otterbein (25-18, 25-17, 24-26, 25-15) in the nightcap.

Against Ursuline, junior Lauren Strowder (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) logged a team-best 11 kills, while classmate Brooke Beavers (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) and first-year Madison Owen (Novi, Mich./Northville) each registered 10 kills.  Senior Lauren Weidner (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) notched five service aces, while junior Claire Koneval (Solon, Ohio/Solon) dished out 50 assists.  Defensively, Beavers and Weidner had 14 and 12 digs, respectively, while Koneval and Owen each had three blocks.

Against the Cardinals, rookie Lauren Gustafson (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter) paced the DU attack with nine kills, while Beavers and Strowder added eight and seven, respectively.  Koneval finished the four-set match with 36 assists.  On defense, Weidner finished with a team-best 34 digs, while Beavers chipped in 27 and junior Brittany Brannon (Atwater, Ohio/Waterloo) added 23.

At the end of the invitational Strowder was selected to the all-tournament team.

Denison (2-8) returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 14) when they host Capital University.  Match time from Livingston Gymnasium is slated for 6:30 p.m.
