The sixth-ranked Denison Big Red defeated rival Kenyon College, 7-2, on Wednesday afternoon from Gambier, Ohio. The Big Red improved to 11-3 overall, while the Ladies fall to 8-5.
Senior Marta Drane (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill) improved to 6-2 at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Kenyon's Prita Kidder. Also picking up straight-set victories at third through sixth singles were Sarah Short (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel), Erin Chadwell (Chicago, Ill./Traverse City Central), Kara Zdanowski (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Kate Westenberger (York, Pa./Dallastown). In doubles competition, the team of Chadwell and Zdanowski logged their 15 win of the year, and ninth at No. 2 doubles following an 8-0 decision over Amanda Polster and Eva Ceja. Short and Alex Marcell (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy) also posted an 8-4 win at third doubles.
Denison returns to the court on April 16 when they host Oberlin College at 4:30 p.m.
