Mount St. Joseph took the opening game of the doubleheader with a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning but Denison rallied for an 11-3 win in game two, moving their record to 11-9 on the year.
In the opening game, the Big Red got six extra base hits and home runs from Erica Evans (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), Alex Murray (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/NDCL) and Molly Sack (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) but they couldn't hold on as Tanya Selton stroked a two-out, two-run single to win the game for the Lions, 8-7. Leslie Brenner (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) took the loss for Denison in game one, going 6.2 innings allowing five earned runs and four strikeouts.
Denison bounced back nicely in game two, topping the home team in five innings after the eight-run rule was put into effect. Evans had another big game for DU, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBIs. She belted a two-run home run in the third inning, her team-best fifth of the season. Hannah Price (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) was 3-for-3 with four RBIs thanks to a pair of two-run singles in the third and fourth innings.
Nikki McCoy (Ney, Ohio/Fairview) earned her fourth victory of the season for Denison. She pitched all five innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out one.
DU will return to the diamond on Monday when they travel to New Concord, Ohio for a doubleheader with Muskingum.
