In their final match before the 2010 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, the fifth-ranked Denison Big Red defeated the College of Wooster, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon from the D.J. Hard Memorial Courts in Wooster, Ohio.
The doubles team of Jane Lent (Glenview, Ill./Cranbrook-Kingswood) and Alex Marcell (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy) blanked Elissa Lauber and Kelsey Jenkins 8-0 at the first flight. At second doubles, senior Maggie Colvin (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange) and sophomore Kate Westenberger (York, Pa./Dallastown) edged Ashley Stockwell and Boo Flynn, 8-6, while sophomores Courtney Steiner (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) and Elizabeth Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Park Tudor School) defeated Erin Bauer and Suzanne Hamby via 8-2 decision at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Westenberber knocked off Lauber in straight sets (6-0, 6-3) at first singles, while Marcell logged a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Stockwell at the second flight and Lent held Brenna Hart scoreless at third singles. Colvin, Steiner and Emhardt also logged straight-set victories at fourth through sixth singles.
Denison improves to 13-4 on the year, while the Fighting Scots fall to 4-14. The Big Red returns to action on Friday when they host the 2010 NCAC Championship Tournament in Granville, Ohio.
