Megan Mitchell hit grand slam home run to cap off a six-run second inning for Transylvania University.  The Pioneers defeated the Denison softball team 9-1 in five innings on Sunday at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Panama City Beach, Fla.

The Big Red only mustered five hits including doubles by senior Emily Croll (Oak Harbor, Ohio/Oak Harbor) and first-year Jessica Robertson (Mt. Gilead, Ohio/Mt. Gilead).  Robertson scored DU's only run on a base hit by sophomore Lauren Lynn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore).

Samantha Rumschlag (Carmel, Ind./Cathedral) gave up eight runs (five earned) on eight hits in 2.1 innings of work.

Denison (2-3) will take on Ithaca College on Sunday in the third-place game of the Bronze Championship Bracket at the NFCA Leadoff Classic at Frank Brown Park.  First pitch is slated for 12:30 p.m. CST.
