Box Score The Denison Big Red made their first appearance in the North Coast Athletic Conference volleyball tournament since 2006. After closing the regular season by winning 9 of their final 13 contests, DU drew top-seed and the nation's No. 2 ranked team, Wittenberg, in the semifinals.
Denison battled the Tigers tough in the first set before falling 25-22. Wittenberg would squash any hopes of a Big Red upset in the next two sets, prevailing 25-11 in both. With the win, the Tigers improve to 29-2 overall while DU ends their campaign with a 12-18 record.
The Big Red was led by junior Lauren Strowder's (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) seven kills via 24 attacks. Megan Early (Findlay, Ohio/Van Buren) followed with six kills while posting a .385 attack percentage. Lauren Weidner (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) led the way with 12 digs in her final collegiate match, and Claire Koneval (Solon, Ohio/Solon) posted 21 assists and 10 digs.
A four-year letterwinner, Weidner is Denison's lone senior. She leaves DU with 1,600 career digs and is currently the NCAC's leader in digs per set at 6.16.
Amy Cox led Wittenberg with 9 kills and 26 assists from her setter position. The Tigers will face the winner of the Hiram-Wooster semifinal match on Saturday (Nov. 6).
