Box Score 2 The Denison Big Red volleyball team logged a pair of victories on Saturday at the North Coast Athletic Conference Power Weekend hosted by Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. DU defeated Ohio Wesleyan 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-10, 25-16) in their opener, and won the nightcap against Kenyon 3-2 (24-26, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-7).
Against the Battling Bishops, junior Lauren Strowder (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) paced the Big Red attack with 15 kills, while Megan Early (Findlay, Ohio/Van Buren) registered 14 kills in 21 attempts. Junior setter Claire Koneval (Solon, Ohio/Solon) finished the match with 53 assists. Defensively, senior libero Lauren Weidner (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) logged 22 digs, and rookie Madison Owen (Novi, Mich./Northville) blocked four shots.
Against the Ladies, Strowder notched a season-high 21 kills, and Early posted 10 kills in 19 tries, while Koneval matched her season high with 57 assists. Junior Brooke Beavers (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) led the defense with 19 digs, while Strowder and Owen each logged a career-high six blocks.
Denison, who's won seven of their last eight matches, improves to 10-14 overall and 6-4 in the conference. The Big Red conclude play at the NCAC Power Weekend on Sunday against fourth-ranked Wittenberg University. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
