Denison tops Earlham in NCAC clash

The Denison women's basketball team got 30 points from their bench as the Big Red knocked off Earlham College 68-38 on Wednesday evening from Livingston Gymnasium in Granville, Ohio.

The DU defense stifled the Quakers all night as 15 Earlham turnovers turned into 26 tallies for Denison.  The Big Red held a 40-26 advantage in the paint and outrebounded the Quakers 52-43.  Denison finished the night 29-for-79 from the floor, while the Quakers shot 16-for-52 from the field.

Junior Shaina Kaiser (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) led all scorers with 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting.  Kaiser also had seven rebounds and four steals in 25 minutes of action.  Christina Myers (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) added 10 points and seven boards, while first-year Lucy Follansbee (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall School) chipped in 10 tallies off the bench.  Rookie point guard Serafina Nuzzo (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) recorded a game-high eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals, while sophomore Annie-Rae Dura (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) collected seven boards.

The Quakers were paced by Nikki Darret who scored 17 points in 28 minutes of play, while Whitney Sparkman added eight tallies and five rebounds and Charvone Long grabbed seven boards.

With the win, Denison improves to 12-4 overall and 4-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Earlham falls to 2-14 on the year and 1-6 in the league.  The Big Red returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Allegheny College for a pivotal NCAC contest.  Tip-off in Granville is slated for 2 p.m.
