Big Red improves to 2-2 in NCAC action

After suffering setbacks in their first two North Coast Athletic Conference matches, the Denison Volleyball team rebounded with victories on day two of the NCAC Power Weekend hosted by Allegheny College.  The Big Red defeated Earlham 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-16) in game one, and came from behind to edge Oberlin 3-2 (18-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-13) in their second match on Sunday in Meadville.

Against the Quakers,  sophomore Lauren Strowder (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) recorded 13 kills to pace the Big Red offense, while Claire Koneval (Solon, Ohio/Solon) dished off 36 assists.  Defensively, senior Holly Leonard (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) had 15 digs, while classmate Sara Mason (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) blocked four balls at the net.

Against the Yeowomen, Strowder and fellow sophomore Megan Early (Findlay, Ohio/Van Buren) each posted 17 kills.  Early logged a career-high six blocks in the five-game match.  Leonard had 20 digs, while Koneval handed out 55 assists.

Denison improves to 3-15 overall and 2-2 in NCAC play.  The Big Red return to action on Oct. 6 when they travel to conference rival Ohio Wesleyan University.  Match time from Delaware is slated for 7 p.m.
