The Denison University volleyball team struggled at a tri-match hosted by Allegheny College on Saturday. The Big Red lost 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 26-24) to the host Gators and dropped a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 26-24) decision to Case Western Reserve University in their second match.
Against Allegheny, sophomore Lauren Strowder (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) registered 10 kills to pace the DU attack. Claire Koneval (Solon, Ohio/Solon) dished out 40 assists while the defense was paced by Holly Leonard's (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) 17 digs and Megan Early's (Findlay, Ohio/Van Buren) four blocks.
Against the Spartans, sophomore Kristen Hughes (Downington, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) hammered a career-high 13 kills, while Strowder also added 13 kills. Hughes' output marked a career-high for the Downing Leonard notched 21 digs, while Koneval handed out 40 assists.
DU closes out the 2009 season with a 7-24 record overall and a 6-10 mark in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
