The Denison Big Red played their final home match of the 2009 season on Wednesday night and they went out in style, posting an impressive 3-0 (25-9, 25-23, 25-15) victory over Earlham College from Livingston Gymnasium.
Denison was led by sophomore Lauren Strowder (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) who finished the night with 16 kills. Morgan Sturgeon (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) and Megan Early (Findlay, Ohio/Van Buren) chipped in two blocks apiece while senior libero Holly Leonard (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Twp.) tacked on 14 digs giving her 2,016 for her career. Last weekend, Leonard became the third player in Denison history to record 2,000 career assists. She needs 50 digs over the next two matches to tie Caitlin Krupka for second-place on the Denison all-time list. In the assist department, sophomore setter Claire Koneval (Solon, Ohio/Solon) posted 33 helpers to lead the Big Red.
Denison's season will come to a close this Saturday when they travel to Meadville, Pa. for a tri-match against Allegheny College and Case Western Reserve. DU will take on the Gators at 11 a.m. and follow with a match against Case at 1 p.m. Tonight's victory improves their season record to 7-22 overall and 6-9 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
