The Denison University volleyball team dropped two matches on the second day of the North Coast Athletic Conference Power Weekend hosted by Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. The Big Red fell to Wooster 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-22) and lost a 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-14, 25-19) decision to No. 8 Wittenberg.
Against the Scots, sophomore Kristen Hughes (Downington, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) paced the DU attack with 12 kills and classmate Claire Koneval (Solon, Ohio/Solon) dished out 37 assists. Defensively, senior Holly Leonard (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) had 17 digs while senior Sara Mason (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) and sophomore Megan Early (Findlay, Ohio/Van Buren) each recorded three blocks.
Against the Tigers, sophomore Lauren Strowder (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) notched 15 kills to lead the Big Red offense. Koneval handed out 43 assists and Leonard registered 29 digs.
DU's record falls to 6-20 on the season and 5-7 in the NCAC. Denison returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 21) when they travel to Wooster, Ohio to once again take on the Fighting Scots at 7 p.m.
