The Denison University volleyball team opened up the second North Coast Athletic Conference Power Weekend with a 3-2 (14-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-16, 15-10) loss to rival Ohio Wesleyan University, but rebounded with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-20) win over Kenyon College in the second match on Saturday from Earlham College.
Against Battling Bishops, senior Sara Mason (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) recorded 14 kills and sophomore Claire Koneval (Solon, Ohio/Solon) dished out 42 assists. Defensively, senior Holly Leonard (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) registered 22 digs, while Mason blocked five shots.
Against the Ladies, sophomore Megan Early (Findlay, Ohio/Van Buren) posted nine kills while Koneval had 32 assists. Leonard recorded 17 digs and Early had three blocks to pace the DU defense.
DU is now 6-18 overall and 5-5 in conference play. The Big Red closes out the Power Weekend on Sunday against the College of Wooster and No. 8 Wittenberg University. Denison battle the Scots at noon, and return to face off with the Tigers at 6 p.m.
