No. 4 Big Red Dominate No. 25 Firebirds to Kick Off NCAA Tournament

Granville, Ohio - In their quest for back-to-back national championships, the No. 4 Denison men's tennis team got off on the right foot, defeating No. 25 Carthage 4-0 in convincing fashion. The Big Red were surgical in doubles play, building momentum into singles for the shutout. Denison now moves to 26-2 on the season and advances to the Third Round.

Doubles: With Andreas Chapides and Nick Meyers locked up in a battle in the No. 3 spot, Wesley Huang, along with his partner Jacob Patterson, took care of business in the No. 2 flight 6-1, and Ethan Green and Kael Shah followed suit shortly after in a 6-3 decision to give Denison an early 1-0 advantage heading into singles play. Green and Shah picked up their 19th win of the season in doubles, while Huang and Patterson secured their 15th.

Singles: The back half of the lineup shined in singles play, with Anthony Payiavlas winning his match in the No. 6 flight in a sweep, 6-0, 6-0. Shah built his momentum from doubles play into singles, cruising through the No. 2 spot with a 6-1, 6-1 decision. He now improves his No. 2 flight record to 7-1 on the season. Patterson was able to effectively end the match in the third slot, winning his first set 6-2 before sweeping in the final set 6-0 to win and advance to the third round, 4-0. Others playing were Green, Chapides, and Meyers, but the matches were abandoned before finishing.
