WOOSTER, Ohio. — Denison softball split a Sunday afternoon doubleheader against The College of Wooster at Galpin Park, dropping game one 7–5 before bouncing back for a 7–3 win in game two. With the split, the Big Red move to 17-19 overall and 8-6 in NCAC play.
Game 1: Wooster 7, Denison 5
Denison found itself in an early hole after Wooster used a four-run fourth inning to take control. The Big Red answered late, scoring one run in the fifth and adding two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to make things interesting.
Carley Melton highlighted the sixth with a two-RBI double, while Andrea Care and Leilah Ferrari each drove in runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to two. Denison finished with 11 hits in the opener but was hindered by three errors.
Brooke Surbaugh took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs over four innings of work.
Game 2: Denison 7, Wooster 3
Denison responded with a strong all-around effort in game two, collecting 13 hits and scoring in five different innings to secure the win.
The Big Red took the lead for good in the fourth inning, as Emerson Seevers and Madilyn Moffitt each delivered RBI singles to make it 4–2. Denison continued to build its lead with runs in the fifth and sixth, highlighted by Moffitt's solo home run and an RBI double from Brianna Gonzalez.
Moffitt led the way offensively and in the circle, finishing with multiple RBIs while earning the complete-game victory. She allowed just three runs on seven hits to improve to 9-8 on the season.
Alex Longstreth and Surbaugh also added RBIs as Denison secured the split.
