Crawfordsville, IN: The nation's No. 1 team continued NCAC play in Indiana against the Little Giants of Wabash College. The Big Red were able to avenge last year's loss with a clean sweep, rattling off 10-0 and 27-4 wins. The pair of wins moves Denison to 21-1 on the season and 4-0 in the conference. The Big Red have tied the previous record of 20 straight wins which was set during the 2025 season(April 16 to May 30th).Â
Game 1: No. 1 Denison 10, Wabash 0 (7 Innings)
The offense wasted no time getting on the board fast in Crawfordsville. Erik Sundgren kicked off the inning with an RBI up the middle to score Eron Vega. A single from Andrew Fazio scored Sundgren in the following at-bat. Kelly Crittenberger drew a walk before a double from Max Fishbein cleared the bases to take a 4-0 first-inning lead.
Senior Robbie Lee earned his sixth start of the season. Lee was able to escape a bases-loaded jam and keep the Little Giants at zero.
In the second, Lutte and Sundgren reached before Jack Rollo plated the fifth run with a groundout to second base. Fazio stayed hot and picked up his second RBI of the day to extend the lead to 6-0. In the bottom of the frame, Lee found his groove, retiring three batters in a row to keep the shutout going into the third inning.
Following a scoreless third frame from both teams, the Big Red would grow its lead to seven in the top of the fourth when a double down the right field line from Rollo scored Sundgren. Lee remained in control and hurled his fourth straight scoreless inning.
In the top of the fifth, a double from Bobby Haarde and a hit by pitch from Vega put two runners on. Lutte scored Haarde before a sac fly from Sundgren scored Vega to take a commanding 9-0 lead.
Lee would toss scoreless fifth and sixth innings before retiring. The offense snagged the crucial 10th run in the top of the seventh inning, courtesy of a base hit from Tristan Kerr. Max Mullen came out of the bullpen to close the game down. The righty sat down three straight batters to secure the game one victory.
Defensively, the duo of Lee and Mullen combined for a 7.0 inning shutout. Lee lasted 6.0 and tallied seven strikeouts and allowed only three hits.
Offensively, the Big Red scored 10 runs on 12 hits. Sundgren went 2-3 and Lutte went 3-5 at the plate. Fazio also tacked on two hits. Sundgren, Rollo, Fazio, and Fishbein picked up two RBIs apiece. The lineup forced Wabash through four arms in the win.
Game 2: No. 1 Denison 27, Wabash 4 (7 Innings)
The Big Red bats picked up right where they left off in the top of the first inning. Denison posted six runs, courtesy of a single from Jack Lutte, a two-RBI double from Andrew Fazio, and a bases clearing double from Nate Lloyd. Cooper Marrs got his third start of the season and held the Little Giants scoreless in the bottom of the first.
The offense kept burning hot in the top of the second. Jack Rollo scored Erik Sundgren with a sac fly before Cade Nowik cleared the bases to score the trio of Andrew Fazio, Kelly Crittenberger, and Max Fishbein to take a towering 10-0 lead in the top of the second. Marrs fired two strikeouts and kept Wabash scoreless in the bottom of the frame.
After a scoreless third inning, senior Connor Remley would take over on the mound for the Big Red in the bottom of the fourth. The Little Giants were able to cut the lead to 10-1.
The bats were quick to respond, as Nowik cleared the bags once more with a three-RBI double before a triple from Lloyd pushed it to 14-1. James Unwin got his first action on the mound. The Wabash lineup found some success, posting three runs in the bottom of the fifth; however, senior Ryan Paganelis recorded back-to-back strikeouts to shut down the comeback.Â
In the sixth, the Big Red tallied two more runs with RBIs from Rollo and Kuyper Lashutka before Paganelis would deliver a scoreless bottom of the inning.
In the final frame, the offense would explode for 11 runs on seven hits to grow the lead to 27-4. Garrett Smith fired a triple and a double. Flynn Shoop recorded his first RBI of the season in the breakout inning. In the bottom of the frame, the duo of Evan Cerretani and Hugh Sullivan would record the final three outs to secure Denison's 20th straight win.
On the mound, Remley was credited with his first win of the season. Paganelis went 1.2 innings, allowing zero runs on just one hit and striking out two. Collectively, the staff struck out five batters.Â
At the plate, the lineup notched 24 hits. Nowik and Lloyd led the way with 3-4 performances and six RBIs apiece. Fazio was also 3-4, and Crittenberger was 3-5. Rollo pitched in four RBIs while Smith knocked in three. The Big Red kept pace with 10 walks and only struck out twice.
