ALLIANCE, Ohio — Denison softball dropped both games of a nonconference doubleheader at Mount Union on Tuesday afternoon, falling 9-0 in five innings in game one before a 1-0 walk-off loss in game two at Rafeld-Rogers Field.
Game One: Mount Union 9, Denison 0 (5 innings)
The Big Red battled early and kept the game within reach through the first two innings, but Mount Union struck first with a sacrifice bunt in the opening frame to take a 1-0 lead.
The Purple Raiders broke things open in the third inning, scoring six runs to extend their advantage to 7-0. Mount Union added two more runs in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.
Denison was held to two hits in the opener, while Brooke Surbaugh took the loss in the circle for the Big Red.
Game Two: Mount Union 1, Denison 0
Denison responded with a strong defensive effort in the second game, as the two teams played through six scoreless innings in a tightly contested pitchers' duel. Madilyn Moffitt kept Mount Union off the scoreboard throughout the afternoon, while the Big Red offense collected five hits and created multiple scoring opportunities.
Mount Union finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh, using a bunt single to bring home the game's lone run and claim the walk-off win.
