SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — A nine-goal first quarter set the tone as No. 9 Denison women's lacrosse rolled past Wittenberg 24–2 on Wednesday night to remain unbeaten in NCAC play.
The Big Red (12-1, 4-0 NCAC) set the tone early with a nine-goal first quarter and never let up, adding 15 more goals over the final three periods while holding the Tigers scoreless until the fourth.
Mary Martinson led the offensive outburst with five goals, while Finlay Harmon added four and Emersen Thompson finished with two. MK Barnhart also scored twice and contributed as a key playmaker, while 14 different Denison players found the back of the net in a balanced attack. Addie Clift recorded two goals and multiple assists in the fourth quarter, helping fuel the late surge.
Denison's dominance extended beyond the scoreboard. The Big Red outshot Wittenberg 43–8 and held a 34–6 advantage in shots on goal. They controlled possession throughout, winning the draw battle 16–6 and going a perfect 10-for-10 on clears. Defensively, Denison forced 23 turnovers while committing just 13 of its own.
In the cage, Denison combined for five saves and limited Wittenberg's opportunities, allowing just two fourth-quarter goals after shutting out the Tigers for more than 50 minutes of play.
The Big Red also held the edge in ground balls (23–18) and capitalized on free-position opportunities, finishing 2-for-4.
