No. 9 Denison Dominates Kenyon in 21-3 Alumni Game Day Win

Granville, Ohio - Denison women's lacrosse celebrated its 50th anniversary after crushing past the Kenyon College Owls 21-3 in front of an energetic crowd. Denison moves to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in league play, extending  its win streak to eight in a row. The Owls dropped to 5-7 for the season and 1-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The Big Red put in nine goals in the first quarter off play. Kicking off the scoring for Denison was senior Bridget Sheehy, who gathered a pass from Sophie Davenport. Less than a minute later Grayson O'Marra finds Davenport for her first goal of the day. Denison would wrap the quarter with seven more goals by four other Big Red players. Finlay Harmon picked up an early hat trick in the first quarter, while senior Mary Martinson tacked on two of her own. Rounding out the first quarter scoring was  Emersen Thompson, Josie Pruss who each put in a goal.

In the second quarter Kenyon managed to slow down the Denison offense, giving up just two goals from Martinson and Pruss, while putting in its first goal of the afternoon.

Coming out of halftime the Big Red took no time to put more on the board. In the 14th minute of play Davenport put in her third of the game off a pass by MK Barnhart. Martinson would record Denison's third hat trick of the day just a minute later to put the Big Red up 12-0. After dishing four assists throughout the game Barnhart put in her first goal of the game to extend Denison's lead to 13. The final three goals of the quarter were scored by O'Marra, followed by two more by Thompson to put the Big Red up 16-1.

In the final quarter of play Denison didn't let up, Martinson and Libby Hile each put in a goal, while Ellie Muldoon closed the door with two goals, for a final score of 21-3.

Julianne Henigan and Cate Dannahey split time in goal, totaling nine saves between the two of them, allowing just three goals on the day.

Denison held a 37-21 edge in shots, and went 12 for 14 in clear attempts. The Big Red also held a 17-9 draw control advantage.

Next Up for the Big Red

Denison is back on the road next week and travels to Springfield, Ohio, on Wednesday, April 15, to take on the Wittenberg Tigers. The Big Red and the Tigers face off at 6 p.m.
