Eight-Goal Second Quarter Lifts Denison to Dominant 15-3 Win Over Wooster

Granville, Ohio - Three Big Red recorded hat tricks in a high-scoring affair from Denison, as they pulled away for a clutch conference win against Wooster, 15-3. Denison outshot Wooster 57-27, while the fighting Scots had six shots on target in comparison to Denison's 30. Denison improves to 6-7 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while Wooster drops to 8-5 and 2-2 in conference play.

Jonah Frank kicked off the scoring affair with a shot that landed in the back of the net to get the Big Red on the board first. Grant Larson would win his second of 15 face-offs to set up a Macky Peck goal followed up by Frank's second in just five minutes, giving Denison a 3-0 lead. The Fighting Scots would answer shortly after, and a defensive stand from both teams would have the Big Red going into the second quarter up 3-1. Denison scooped up eight ground balls in the first, along with winning five face-offs.

Denison came out on fire in the second quarter, scoring eight unanswered courtesy of Teddy Hardy, Brady Monturio, Ryne Whitt, and Michael Cassidy to give Denison a commanding 11-1 lead heading into halftime. Hardy recorded three goals in the second quarter alone, while Cassidy posted two in the high-scoring 15 minutes of action. The Big Red would have 12 shots on goal, while only limiting Wooster to just four shots total.

The offense continued to shine with a second-goal from Peck making it a 12-1 game. Wooster would get two quick goals back, but that would end the scoring for them on the day. Denison would fire off six more shots, but none could find the back of the net as the teams went into the final frame of play with the Big Red leading 12-3.

Frank and Peck finished their impressive days with hat tricks, increasing the lead to 11 until Colin Swanson got in on the action with a goal on his own for what would ultimately be the final score, 15-3. Denison shut out Wooster in two quarters, outscoring the Scots 11-0, and went perfect on clears (15-for-15). Andrew Albert had a quiet day in goal, only facing six shots while saving three.
