Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Falls In Final Seconds to No. 5 Lynchburg

Lynchburg, Va. - Despite going toe-to-toe all game with the No. 5 ranked Hornets, the Denison men's lacrosse team would fall 14-13 after a Lynchburg goal in the last five seconds of play clinched the game. Jack Moellering and Macky Peck both recorded hat tricks, while Brady Monturio cashed in two. Denison falls to 2-4, while Lynchburg improves to 4-0.

The first quarter featured three lead changes and two ties, with Lynchburg going up 2-0 to start, but goals from Moellering and Monturio tied it up. Another goal by Moellering would give Denison their first lead, but Lynchburg scored two unanswered to go up 4-3 entering the second quarter. Zach Warren and Jonah Frank scored each to kick off the second quarter and retake the lead in the first three minutes of play, with Warren's goal being a man-up score. The Hornets kept swinging, as they went on a three-goal run to go up 7-5, but Liam Gillard stopped the bleeding with a goal in the final seconds to trail Lynchburg by one heading into the half, 7-6.

Monturio started off the second half with his second goal of the game, but the Hornets capitalized with three of their own to go up 10-7. With under seven minutes remaining, the Big Red defense stepped up, and Macky Peck and Moellering scored one goal apiece to go down one once again heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

Unlike the first three quarters, both offenses became stagnant in the first five minutes until Peck fired a shot off of the feed from Khari Freeman to tie the game up at 10-10. Peck would obtain his hat trick shortly after, delivering a shot around the nine minute mark to go up 11-10, their first lead since 12 minutes in the second quarter. Just as they had done all game, both teams went back and forth with each other, and with the Hornets up 13-12 with under three to play, Ellis Halpin fired in a rocket to tie the game up 13-13 with a minute left. Lynchburg would win the next face-off, and would ultimately be the game clincher, as with five seconds left the Hornets scored to make it 14-13 and the final.
