GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison Men's Lacrosse secured its first conference win, topping John Carroll University 16-8. The Big Red moves to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Blue Streaks fall to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in conference.
In the first quarter, Denison got on the board first, off an unassisted goal by newcomer
Jonah Frank in the eighth minute of play. Just a minute later, the Blue Streaks would strike back to tie the game at one apiece. The Big Red would put in two more goals to go up 3-1 with just over five minutes in the quarter, but unwilling to go away, John Carroll snuck in a last-second goal to cut the Big Red lead to just one goal.
Eight minutes into the second quarter, the Blue Streaks would knot the game up for the second time, this time at three goals apiece. Looking to pull away from John Carroll,
Brady Monturio finds
Macky Peck to score the Big Red's fourth goal of the game and kick off a string of goals for the Big Red. Monturio would dish a pass to
Teddy Hardy a minute later to push Denison's lead to two. With time winding down,
Liam Gillard put in the Big Red's sixth goal of the game to put Denison up 6-3.
Building off the second quarter momentum, Denison dominated in the third quarter, going on a 7-to-1 run to give a definitive 12-4 lead heading into the fourth quarter. John Carroll would score the first of its four goals in the opening two minutes of play, and the Big Red was unwilling to give up its commanding lead, going shot-for-shot with the Blue Streaks, resulting in a decisive 16-8 victory.
Nine different members of the Denison Big Red scored across the afternoon, with Peck and Frank leading the scoring with three goals each. Hardy,
Zach Warren, and Gillard each put in two goals, while
