Head Coach Mo Hirt Named D3hoops.com Region 7 Coach of the Year, Cooch and Taute placed on All-Region Teams

Granville, Ohio - The D3hoops.com All-Region teams have just been announced, and the Big Red have racked in the awards. Juniors Ada Taute and Abby Cooch were named All-Region, with Taute landing on the First Team, and Cooch on the Second Team. Head Coach Mo Hirt has been named Region 7 Coach of the Year after leading the Big Red to their first "Sweet Sixteen" appearance and advancing to the "Final Four", which they will play in this Thursday, March 19 in Salem, Virginia.

Ada Taute (Jr. | Chicago, Ill. | G) - Taute receives her first All-Region honor, earning a First Team nod in her stellar junior season. The Chicago native has averaged a team high 14.0 points per game and 2.2 steals per game to get it done on both ends of the floor. She has also posted 6.7 rebounds per game and 3.2 assists per game, with shooting 47.3% from the field. She has been locked in on the Big Red's tourney run, averaging 16.5 points per game on 49% shooting along with 7.0 rebounds per game en route to the national semifinals. The First Team All-NCAC recipient has eclipsed 10+ points 23 times this season, and has started in all 30 contests.

Abby Cooch (Jr. | Clifton, Va. | G) - Cooch lands on Second Team All-Region in pacing the Big Red as the floor general. The First Team All-NCAC recipient was second on the team in points, averaging 13.3 per game just behind Taute, and also dished off a team-leading 3.8 assists per game and 3.7 rebounds per game. Cooch led the conference in free-throw percentage at 83.5%, and is shooting 31.3% from behind the arc. In the NCAA Tournament, she is averaging 14.5 points per game, and hit a program-record seven three's in a game against No. 24 Trine University in the Second Round. Also in their game against Trine, she buried a three-pointer to eclipse 1,000 points in her career. 

Maureen Hirt (Coach of the Year) - Coach Hirt has received All-Region Coach of the Year honors for the second time in three seasons in the midst of a historic run for Denison. Hirt and the team recently tied the program-record for wins in a season with 28, won the NCAC Regular Season title, advanced to the program's first-ever "Sweet Sixteen", and have recently won the NCAA Sectional Championship, sending them to the national semifinals on Thursday. Hirt, who is no stranger to the NCAC, played for Kenyon and graduated in 2014, and was an assistant coach at Oberlin before arriving to Granville. In her fourth season, she currently sits at an overall record of 73-36 (.669 pct.) and is second in program history in wins.

The Big Red will be playing in the national semifinal this Thursday, March 19 at 5:00 pm in the Cregger Center on the campus of Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia against No. 2 Wisconsin-Oshkosh. More information on how to watch will be posted in the next coming days.
