PANAMA CITY, Fla. — Behind a seven-goal first quarter, No. 11 Denison women's lacrosse defeated Plymouth State 19–3 on Sunday evening in the opening game of its spring break trip, improving to 5–1 on the season.
Denison controlled the game from the opening draw, scoring seven goals in the first quarter to take an early 7–0 lead. MK Barnhart opened the scoring before Grayson O'Marra added two quick goals during the run. Mary Martinson, Maddie Chase (2), and Sophie Davenport also found the net as the Big Red built early separation.
The offensive momentum continued in the second quarter as Denison added five more goals. Bridget Sheehy scored twice in the period while O'Marra completed her hat trick. Addie Clift and Hana Asghari also scored to help the Big Red take a 12–2 lead into halftime.
Denison maintained control in the second half, adding four goals in the third quarter from Barnhart, Madison Goldstein, Martinson, and Ellie Muldoon. The Big Red closed out the night with three more goals in the fourth quarter from Anna Nuckols, Adelaide Merrick, and Josie Pruss.
O'Marra led the Big Red with three goals while Sheehy, Chase, Barnhart, and Martinson each scored twice. Denison also received goals from Davenport, Clift, Nuckols, Asghari, Pruss, Goldstein, Muldoon, and Merrick in a balanced offensive effort that saw 13 different players find the back of the net.
Denison controlled the pace of play, finishing with a 37–17 edge in shots and a 25–10 advantage in shots on goal. The Big Red also led 13–10 in draw controls and held a 13–3 margin in ground balls while clearing the ball successfully 15-of-17 times.
