No. 30 Denison Drops Home Opener to No. 13 Carnegie Mellon

Granville, Ohio - The No. 30 Denison women's tennis team dropped their first match of the season against No. 13 ranked Carnegie Mellon, 6-1. Maddie Larsen was able to pick up the lone win in the home opener for the Big Red. Carnegie Mellon improves to 3-0, while Denison falls to 0-1.

Doubles: Carnegie Mellon was able to get the upper hand in doubles, sweeping the Big Red to obtain the first point. Peyton Oda and Rafaella Ramos put up a valiant effort against the No. 19 ranked doubles team in the nation, but fell 6-4 in flight No. 1. Ariana Rodriguez and Anna Leach fell in the No. 3 flight 7-5, and Dasha Chistyakova and her partner Anna Leach dropped their match 6-4 in the two slot.

Singles: The Big Red were able to get on the board with a win in the No. 6 flight from Maddie Larsen, defeating her opponent in three sets 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9). Dasha Chistyakova had the second-longest match of the day, dropping a close match to nationally-ranked Divya Venkatarama 4-6, 5-7. The Big Red went up against four top-40 nationally-ranked singles players, proving to be a great test.
