OBERLIN, Ohio — The No. 8 Denison women's basketball team controlled the game from the opening tip Wednesday night inside Philips Gymnasium, building an early double-digit lead and never looking back in a 68–49 NCAC road win over Oberlin. The Big Red improves to 21–1 overall and 10–1 in conference play while holding the Yeowomen to just 19 first-half points.
First Quarter: Denison settled in after an early Oberlin bucket and quickly seized control of the opening quarter behind sharp shooting and stiff defense. The Big Red knocked down five three-pointers, including multiple triples from
Adelyn Moore and late shots from
Brooke Toigo and
Molly Dorighi, while forcing turnovers and creating extra possessions to build an 11-point cushion before Oberlin drained a three to close out the first with a 19–11 lead.
Second Quarter: Denison leaned on its defense and outside shooting to stretch the lead in the second quarter, holding Oberlin to one jumper while contesting nearly every look at the rim.
Ada Taute sparked the offense with a pair of three-pointers,
Morgan Kress and
Violet Mitchell added paint touches, and the Big Red closed the half on another Taute triple to cap an 18–8 frame and take a commanding 37–19 advantage into the break.
Third Quarter: Denison opened the third quarter with the same defensive pressure, forcing early turnovers and pushing the margin to 20 on baskets from Taute and Mitchell. The Big Red weathered a brief Oberlin push and some cold shooting stretches by controlling the glass and getting to the line, with Anelly Mad-Toingué and Taute adding key points to keep the lead comfortable as Denison carried a 49–29 advantage into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter: Denison put the game away early in the fourth, answering an initial Oberlin score with an and-one from Taute and a three-pointer from Mitchell to keep the lead comfortably above 20. The Big Red continued to share the ball and knock down shots, including a triple and mid-range jumper from
Adelyn Moore, before rotating in the bench down the stretch to close out the 68–49 road victory.
