Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Denison Wins Third Straight Conference Game Against Kenyon, 75-62

Granville, Ohio - Denison started off their new year with a bang, as three Big Red scored in double-digits to pick up their third conference win of the season against Kenyon, 75-62. Denison improves to 8-4 and 3-0 in conference play, while Kenyon drops to 7-5 and 1-2 in conference play.

First Half: Both teams exchanged a bevy of buckets in the first 10 minutes of play, as there were six lead changes as the Big Red and Owls tried to maintain a run, but no team could pull through. With six minutes left in the half, Denison started to churn out some shots, as they went on a 13-2 run going six-of-nine from field in that stretch with Ellis Appiah having six of those points. The Big Red would go into the half up 37-24 behind eight points each from Luke Salkowski and Liam Taylor in the half. The Big Red shot 57.1% from the field in comparison to 30% from the Owls, and had 22 points in the paint.

Second Half: The Big Red continued their hot end of the half into the start of the second, as they increased their lead to as much as 17 with buckets from Kellon Smith and Jack Steinbach. The Owls would try and muster a comeback, but the Big Red would dismiss every opportunity coming down the floor with a bucket of their own, including tough shots from Smith and Owen Giannoulias. Denison would maintain their double digit lead through most of the second half, and with shooting 50% from the field as a team helped immensely, and they would come away with their third conference win of the season, 75-62.

Team Highlights:
  • Denison had one of their best shooting nights of the season, hitting 29-of-58 shots on 50% shooting and went 80% from the free throw.
  • The Big Red had 29 points off the bench and 38 in the paint.
  • Salkowski recorded his third double-double of the season, scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. He went 100% from the field, connecting on all seven of his shot attempts.
  • Smith also had an efficient shooting day scoring 16 points on 72.7% shooting.
  • Liam Taylor was the other Big Red scoring in double digits. He had 12 with six of those coming from threes.
