Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Denison Dominates in 5-1 Victory Over Baldwin Wallace

Granville, Ohio - The Denison women's soccer team left no doubt in their home opener Friday evening, defeating the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets 5-1 behind two goals and an assist from Emily Stackhouse. The Big Red improved its record to 2-1 while the Yellow Jackets fell to 0-2-2.

The Big Red kicked off the scoring barrage in the 17th minute, as junior Mattie Mielke found the back of the net for her second goal of the season. It was her second consecutive game with a goal.

Both teams would exchange shots until Emily Stackhouse found Maryn Zavislak in the 27th minute to make the contest 2-0.

Right after delivering the assist, Stackhouse would find herself with a goal of her own to put the Big Red up 3-0 at the half. Denison held a 12-2 edge in shots over Baldwin Wallace in the first half, showcasing their offensive firepower.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets' Kalyn Rich found the back of the Big Red's net to get Baldwin on the board, cutting the deficit to two. Up 3-1, the Big Red would be quick to answer, as Stackhouse would rifle a shot in from the right side of the field, bouncing off the left post and sneaking in to make the score 4-1 and her second goal and fifth point of the evening.

The scoring would not stop there, as first year, Della Hawkins would score her first goal as a Big Red, giving Denison a commanding 5-1 lead. Mielke and Stackhouse both have three goals on the season, both tied for first on the team.

The Big Red outshot Baldwin Wallace 23-8 and had 14 shots on target, the most this season so far. Denison also had five corner kicks compared to Baldwin Wallace's two, and Denison also led in fouls, 8-2. Molly Noga and Caroline Hague split time in goal for the Big Red, with Hague tallying a career high five saves for the evening.
