Lexington, Va.- In their first road matchup of the 2025 season, the Denison field hockey team fell to Washington and Lee 2-1. The Big Red moves to 0-3 for the season, while the Generals improve to 1-1 for the season.

Denison struck first in the opening five minutes of the first quarter off a penalty stroke by senior midfielder Nina Casingal. The Big Red held onto its one-goal lead up until the third quarter. Washington and Lee's offense woke up after halftime, knotting up the game at one apiece, just a minute into the second half. Thanks to seven forced penalty corners and relentless pressure in its offensive end, the Generals began to chip away at Denison's back line.

In the fifth minute of the third quarter, Washington and Lee found the back of the Big Red's cage for a second time, putting the Generals up 2-1 with over 20 minutes left in regulation. In the fourth quarter, Washington and Lee stifled Denison's offense, holding them to just one shot and no penalty corner attempts.

The Generals outshot the Big Red 29-3, with 14 of its shots coming in the third quarter. Despite the outcome, Denison's Therese Lucian tallied a career high 12 saves to keep the Big Red in the game.

The Big Red returns to Granville, Ohio, for its first North Coast Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday, September 10. Denison takes on Wittenberg at 4:30 p.m.
