Granville, Ohio- In its first North Coast Athletic Conference matchup of the 2025 season, the Denison field hockey team shut out Wittenberg University 5-0 at home. With this evening's win, the Big Red improves to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in NCAC play, while the Tigers drop to 0-3 for the season and 0-1 in conference play. 

Despite a slow start, Denison maintained possession of the ball for the majority of the matchup, resulting in four different scorers on the day, and outshooting its opponents 31-0. 

Kathleen Keil scored the Big Red's first goal of the day after deflecting a pass from Emma Gebhart for her first career goal. Gebhart put Denison up by two in the 27th minute of play after securing a pass within the shooting circle, slipping past her defenders, and sending a rocket into the back of the Tigers' cage.

In the second half, Denison turned up its intensity, scoring two goals in the third quarter, one by junior midfielder Claire Willoughby and the other by senior attack Katherine Flanagan. With one quarter left in regulation and up by four goals, the Big Red continued to put pressure on the Wittenberg defense. Not letting up in the last two minutes of play Gebhart tallied her second goal of the day, giving the Big Red a 5-0 victory over the Tigers.

Gebhart led the day with two goals and two assists, while the team held a 15-0 edge in penalty corners and finished the game with 15 shots on goal.
