Bexley, Ohio - Behind a strong offensive attack, the Denison Big Red men's soccer team overwhelmed the Capital Comets in a 3-0 shutout victory under the lights. Denison improves their record to 8-0-1, while the Comets fall to 1-5-1.

The Big Red kept the ball on Capital's side of the field for the majority of the half, as Denison recorded four shots on target in the first 28 minutes. In the 31st minute, senior Phil Koutsaftis would finally break through for the Big Red, as Eli Taylor found the midfielder for the first score of the game.

A couple minutes later, junior midfielder Justin Crow located sophomore forward Emmett O'Brien to score and make it a 2-0 game, It was O'Brien's second goal of the season.

Denison outshot the Comets 13-0 in the first half, and had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks, displaying their offensive presence early and often.

In the second half, both teams would be quiet on both ends, as only four shots in total were taken to start out the half. In the 78th minute, Koutsaftis and Taylor would switch roles, as this time Koutsaftis dished it out to Taylor for the score, and would make it a 3-0 game which would ultimately be the final.

The Big Red outshot the Comets 20-2 and had nine shots on target. Capital registered two yellow cards throughout the match while Denison had one.

First-year goalkeeper Alex Provost had a quiet day in the net, only recording one save on the evening. He picks up his seven shutout of the season.

Denison will begin NCAC play at home next Saturday, October 4 against Kenyon College at 1 pm at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium.
