Granville, Ohio- Under the lights at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium, the Denison field hockey team kicked off Family Weekend with a 2-0 victory over Oberlin College. With the evening's win, the Big Red improves to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play. The Yeowomen drop to 3-4 for the season and 0-3 in conference play.

The Big Red were on the offensive almost immediately after the first whistle, earning two corners in the first five minutes of play, which ultimately led to a goal by first-year Lulu Keil, who deflected a quick ball inside the circle by Helen Breen. Up 1-0 with plenty of game left, Denison didn't let up, putting up four more shots and seven more penalty corner attempts. On the ninth attempt of the day, a perfectly executed insert by Emma Gebhart found Breen, who shot a rocket into the back of the Yeowomen's cage.

Though Denison's scoring ended in the first quarter, and the penalty corner attempts were reduced to just three across the remaining three quarters, the Big Red stifled Oberlin's offense and held them to one shot, while putting up 12 shots on the other end. 

Denison's defensive line made the evening for Therese Lucian, who faced no shots for the night. Oberlin's Janny McCormick finished the evening with five saves.
