Granville, Ohio-A five-goal fourth quarter by the Denison field hockey team secured a definitive 7-0 victory over the Allegheny Gators. With today's Big Red Weekend win, Denison moves to 5-5 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while Allegheny drops to 2-6 and 0-3 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.
After scoring two goals in the first half and a scoreless third quarter, the Big Red put in five goals in the fourth quarter to close out the game. Helen Breen kicked off the scoring for Denison in 11th minute of play, after collecting a rebounded shot to put the Big Red up by one. Denison would extend its lead to two, after Lulu Keil snuck a slow rolling ball past the Gators defense in the second quarter for a 2-0 lead.
The game would open up for the Big Red in the fourth and final quarter of the game. Four separate players scored the last five goals of the game, earning Denison its fourth shutout of the season. Putting in one goal apiece were Reilly Desmond, Emma Gebhart, and Slater Boos, who scored her first career goal. Rounding out the scoring onslaught was Maddie Gaines who put in two goals to solidify the win.Â
The Big Red blanked the Gators in shots and penalty corners, outshooting Allegheny 28-0 and holding a 22-0 edge in penalty corners. In the cage for the Gators was Rowan O'Toole, who finished the afternoon with a career high 14 saves.
