Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Denison Falls to No. 4 Christopher Newport 3-0 at Home

Granville, Ohio- The Denison field hockey team battled till the end in its 3-0 loss to No. 4 Christopher Newport University. With today's defeat, the Big Red drops to 2-4 for the season, while the Captains extend their unbeaten streak to 6-0 for the season.

For the first ten minutes of play, Christopher Newport put early pressure on the Denison backline, forcing all eight of its first-quarter penalty corners in a span of nine minutes. The Captains finally caught a break in the 11th minute, sneaking a ball past Therese Lucian to put Christopher Newport up by one.

The Captains would tack on their second goal in the second quarter following a penalty corner attempt and a scuffle in front of the cage. In the third quarter, Denison turned up their intensity, forcing four penalty corners and holding Christopher Newport to just the two goals. Throughout the fourth quarter the Big Red would fight for position and a chance to cut the Captain's lead in half. With under two minutes left in regulation, Christopher Newport's Riley Iasiello recovered a rebounded shot, and slipped the ball past Lucien, to give the Captains a 3-0 victory.

Christopher Newport held a 25 to 6 edge in shots and recorded a whopping 15 penalty corners to Denison's four. Despite the offensive disparity, the Big Red's defense, led by Lucien, kept Denison in the game. Lucien finished with 11 saves, just one shy of her career high.
