Roanoke, Va. - The Denison women's soccer team finished their road trip with a 2-0 win at Roanoke University on Sunday afternoon at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.
The Big Red started the match out hot, in the second minute of play junior midfielder
Mattie Mielke found the back of the net off of a free kick for her first goal of the season, giving Denison an early 1-0.
Denison would be aggressive the rest of the first half, out-shooting the Maroons 6-4, but could not come up with a score.
In the start of the second half, the Big Red did almost exactly what they had done to start the game, just one minute into the second half first-year forward
Emily Stackhouse scored off an
Avery Butler assist to give Denison a commanding 2-0 lead, which ultimately became the final score.
The Big Red defense was stout all day, only letting up one shot in the second half and five overall on the day. Denison also recorded 12 shots, with seven of them being on target.
With the win, Denison moves to 1-1-0 while Roanoke falls to 0-2-0.
Up Next for the Big Red
