Granville, Ohio – The No. 20 Denison women's lacrosse team punched their ticket to the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship game with a commanding 21-11 victory over Kenyon College in Wednesday night's semifinal at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium. With the win, the Big Red improve to 13-4 overall, while Kenyon ends its season at 7-9.
Denison opened the game with urgency, jumping out to a 3-0 lead behind goals from Mary Martinson, Sophie Davenport, and Anna DeVuono. Kenyon responded with a four-goal run to tie it late in the first, but Denison regrouped and reclaimed control in the second quarter. Fueled by DeVuono's four first-half goals and a pair of scores from Caroline Brooks, the Big Red carried a 10-8 lead into the break.
The second half was all Denison. The Big Red outscored Kenyon 11-3 over the final two quarters, with DeVuono continuing her career night and netting three more goals to finish with eight goals and one assist. Brooks followed with four goals and one assist, while Davenport and Martinson each tallied three goals. Bridget Sheehy, Maddie Chase, Jamie Epstein, and Sydney Lavin also added key contributions in the win.
Denison controlled much of the possession, outshooting Kenyon 31-23, including 22 shots on goal. The Big Red also forced 19 turnovers, scooped up 15 ground balls, and were sharp in transition, converting 17-of-19 clears. Though Kenyon edged Denison in draw controls (19-16), the Big Red made the most of their possessions and locked down defensively in the second half.
