No. 20 Denison Three-Peats as NCAC Women’s Lacrosse Champions with 12–5 Win Over Wooster

Granville, Ohio (May 3, 2025) — The No. 20 Denison women's lacrosse captured their third consecutive NCAC Championship on Saturday afternoon with a decisive 12–5 win over Wooster at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium. This victory marked a historic three-peat for the Big Red, the 2025 NCAC Championship victory marks Denison's 18th overall conference title and their second three-peat in program history.

After conceding the opening goal to Wooster, Denison quickly took control, rattling off four unanswered goals to close out the first quarter. Grayson O'Marra, Anna DeVuono, Emersen Thompson, and Maddie Chase all found the back of the net as the Big Red surged ahead. Denison extended their lead in the second quarter, with goals from Mary Martinson and DeVuono, taking a commanding 6–2 lead at halftime.

Senior attacker Anna DeVuono was the star of the day, recording five goals—including a natural hat trick in the third quarter—to power Denison's offense. The Big Red's defense was equally formidable, limiting Wooster to just five goals on the day and forcing 23 turnovers. Goalkeeper Julianne Hennigan played the full 60 minutes in goal, recording seven saves while allowing just five goals to earn the win. Her strong performance anchored a Denison defense that held Wooster to single-digit scoring and 0-for-7 on free-position attempts.

Denison outscored Wooster 6–3 in the second half, with additional goals from Caroline Brooks, Bridget Sheehy, and Sydney Lavin to seal the victory. The Big Red finished the game with a dominant 30–21 advantage in shots, including 17 shots on goal, compared to Wooster's nine.

The Big Red also excelled in ground balls, collecting 24 compared to Wooster's 13, and capitalized on free-position opportunities, converting 4 of 7 attempts, while Wooster struggled with a 0-for-7 performance. Denison's defensive pressure forced Wooster into 23 turnovers.

With the win, No. 20 Denison secures the NCAC Tournament title and earns the conference's automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Division III Tournament. The Big Red improve to 15–3 on the season as they prepare for national postseason play.

Four Big Red players earned spots on the 2025 NCAC Women's Lacrosse All-Tournament Team: Mary Daniel, Liz Hinton, Mary Martinson, and J Hennigan.
Anna DeVuono was named Tournament MVP for her outstanding performance, scoring five goals in the championship game.
