Granville, Ohio – The No. 22 Denison women's lacrosse team cruised to a dominant 22-3 victory over their opponent on Saturday afternoon, improving to 12-4 overall and maintaining a perfect 6-0 record in North Coast Athletic Conference play. Wittenberg falls to 0-7 in NCAC action and 4-12 for the season.
Denison came out of the gate strong, taking control from the opening whistle. The Big Red exploded for a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, with Maddie Van Slyke leading the way, scoring five goals in the half. Caroline Brooks and Mary Martinson also contributed multiple goals as Denison's offense was firing on all cylinders.
The second quarter saw Denison continue to roll, as they outscored the Tigers 2-1, extending their lead to 16-1 at the half. Denison didn't let up, adding six more goals in the third quarter. Wittenberg managed to score two more goals in the second half, but Denison's defense, along with key contributions from the offense, maintained the large lead through to the final whistle.
Maddie Van Slyke led the charge for Denison, scoring five goals and adding one assist for six points. Anna DeVuono tallied three goals and one assist, while Maddie Chase contributed three goals as well. Mary Martinson and Caroline Brooks added three points apiece, with two goals and one assist each. Bridget Sheehy and MK Barnhart also had multiple goals in the victory, while Addie Clift and Sophie Davenport each added key assists.
Denison's offense dominated, finishing with 44 total shots, including 28 on goal. The Big Red were also in control of possession, winning 22 draw controls to their opponent's 7, and they scooped up 19 ground balls compared to 11. The defense was equally as impressive, causing 16 turnovers and limiting the Tigers to just three goals.
