Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Big Red Takes Down Fighting Scots in Battle of the Unbeaten

Wooster, Ohio- In a battle of the unbeaten, No. 22 Denison women's lacrosse came out on top, defeating the College of Wooster 15-10 to claim the number one spot in conference play. En route to its fifth win in a row, the Big Red ended Wooster's program-high 11-game win streak, moving Denison to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play. The Fighting Scots drop to 5-1 in NCAC play and 15-2 for the season.

The two teams traded goals from the first whistle. Despite Wooster holding a 3-2 lead over Denison following the first quarter, the Big Red stayed composed and shut out the Fighting Scots in the second quarter, and with a 5-3 lead heading into the half, Denison continued to find the back of Wooster, 's net scoring four more goals in the third. Unfortunately for the Big Red, the Fighting Scots are just as much a second-half team as Denison, and they managed to claw their way back into the game, tying it at nine goals apiece. With the regular season conference title on the line, Denison built on the third-quarter momentum and outscored Wooster 6-1 in the fourth to secure the 15-1 victory.

Five different players put up 15 goals for Denison, and pacing the Big Red's offense was senior Anna DeVuono, who scored seven goals. Fellow senior Caroline Brooks tallied three goals and an assist, while Mary Martinson and Addie Clift put in two goals apiece, and Maddie Chase scored one. Facilitating the scoring across the evening matchup was Bridget Sheehy with four assists, Grayson O'Marra, who dished out two assists, as well as Brooks, Sophie Davenport, and MK Barnhart, who each recorded one assist.

Despite the five-goal margin, the College of Wooster didn't give up this matchup easily. The Fighting Scots held a 15-14 edge in draw controls secured and would go three-for-three in free position shots while giving up just one free position shot on the other end. Fortunately for the Big Red, the defense, specifically when it came to clear attempts, played a crucial role in keeping the Fighting Scots offense at bay. Denison would finish the evening with 16 caused turnovers to Wooster's 10.

In goal for Denison, Julianne Henigan got the start and tallied four saves, and for the final 16 minutes of play, Kaylyn Kirrane played crucial minutes and earned one save for the night to earn her second victory of the season. The Fighting Scots' Audrey Richardson finished the evening with five saves.
