DeVuono's Six-Goal Performance Powers No. 22 Denison to 18-11 Win Over Oberlin

Oberlin, Ohio - The No. 22 Denison women's lacrosse team used a powerful second and third quarter to pull away from Oberlin College in an 18-11 win on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Big Red improves to 10-4 overall and remains unbeaten in conference play at 4-0, while Oberlin falls to 8-7 and 1-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The Big Red found themselves trailing early after Oberlin scored three unanswered goals in the first quarter, but Denison responded with authority. Sparked by a six-goal run in the second quarter, Denison took control and never looked back. The Big Red outscored the Yeowomen 6-2 in the second period and 6-4 in the third to build a cushion they'd maintain through the final whistle.

Senior attacker Anna DeVuono delivered a standout performance, pouring in six goals and adding an assist for a game-high seven points. She was one of five multi-goal scorers for Denison. Bridget Sheehy stuffed the stat sheet with two goals and three assists, while Emersen Thompson, Caroline Brooks and MK Barnhart each tallied two goals apiece. Grayson O'Marra, Mary Martinson, Addie Clift and Maddie Chase also found the back of the net, with O'Marra adding two key assists.

Denison's offense was firing on all cylinders, finishing with 46 total shots, including 27 on goal. The Big Red dominated possession and created scoring chances off the draw, winning 18 draw controls to Oberlin's 14. Denison also forced 27 turnovers while committing just 15 themselves and scooped up 35 ground balls, leading in every major statistical category except saves.

In goal, Julianne Henigan earned the win with a strong first-half showing, while Cate Dannahey also saw time as the two combined for two saves in a game where Denison's defense limited chances.

Up Next: Denison continues NCAC play on the road, traveling to Wooster on Monday, April 22 for a 6 p.m. matchup.
