Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 22 Denison Take Down Tigers 20-7 at Home

Granville, Ohio- Unlike its matchup against Kenyon this past weekend, the No. 22 Denison women's lacrosse team took no time to heat up and pull away from DePauw in their 20-7 victory over the Tigers. With this win, Denison moves to 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and 9-4 overall. DePauw drops to 2-2 in conference play and is 6-7 for the season. Denison held tight to its unbeaten streak over DePauw, notching their 12th win over the Tigers.

Despite DePauw scoring first in the 13th minute of play and it taking Denison until the 12th-minute mark to answer, the Big Red found its stride in the seventh minute, scoring twice in 20 seconds. That three-goal lead seemed to open the floodgates for Denison's scoring confidence, resulting in a 12-4 lead heading into halftime.

It was more of the same in the second half with fresh legs on the field. Much like the first half, the Big Red put up five goals in the third quarter while holding the Tigers to just one. With the goal differential above ten and the clock running for the remainder of the fourth quarter, time favored Denison, who put in three more goals to bring its scoring total to 20.

Pacing the Big Red's scoring was senior attack Anna DeVuono with four goals and two assists. Just behind her with three goals was junior Sydney Lavin. Three individuals recorded two goals apiece: Caroline Brooks, MK Barnhart, and Anie Savarese. Bridget Sheehy, Lizzie Israel, Josie Pruss, Mary Martinson, Madison Goldstein, Grayson O'Marra, and Emersen Thompson scored the remaining seven goals. Of the 12 goal scorers, Savarese and Pruss notched their first career goals as Big Red members this evening.

Three Denison goalies found their way onto the field. Julianne Henigan got the start, tallying six saves, while teammates Kaylyn Kirrane and Cate Dannahey notched one save each. In goal for the Tigers was Niamh Callahan, who tallied six saves.

Denison finished the evening outshooting DePauw 44-26 and only committed 13 turnovers. The Big Red went 19-20 in clear attempts while disrupting at least four of DePauw's 13 clear attempts. Denison held a 17-10 edge in caused turnovers and finished the evening 3-3 in free position attempts.

Up Next: The Denison Big Red travel to Oberlin, Ohio, to take on Oberlin College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19.
