Wooster, Ohio - The No. 13 Denison University men's lacrosse team earned an 8-3 victory over The College of Wooster on Tuesday night, improving to 10-4 overall and 5-0 in NCAC play.
Denison came out firing, scoring four unanswered goals in the first quarter. Jack Hines opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 8:50 mark, followed by strikes from Colin Donegan, Liam Gillard (assisted by Kevin Berutich), and Jack Moellering to give the Big Red a 4-0 lead after one.
Wooster got on the board late in the second quarter with a man-up goal, but Denison maintained control and took a 4-1 lead into halftime. The Big Red extended their advantage in the third, as Moellering netted his second of the game, Tommy Quinson scored unassisted, and Michael Cassidy added another goal off a feed from Quinson to make it 7-1.
The Fighting Scots added a pair of goals in the second half, but Macky Peck found the back of the net in the final minutes to secure the 8-3 win for Denison.
Tommy Quinson led the offense with one goal and two assists for three points. Jack Moellering scored twice, while Peck, Cassidy, Hines, Donegan, and Gillard each added a goal. Grant Larson went 8-for-8 on faceoffs and collected eight ground balls, while Augie Oberting added seven ground balls and Charlie Pellegrino recorded a team-high three caused turnovers. Goalie Andrew Albert made 10 saves in the win.
Denison outshot Wooster 42-23, held a 23-12 advantage in shots on goal, and dominated in ground balls (36-20) and faceoffs (12-2). The Big Red were successful on 19 of 21 clear attempts and limited the Scots to just one extra-man goal on four opportunities.
