Big Red Split Final Day at the Grand Slam Triangle Classic

Raleigh, N.C.- The Denison University softball team finished up the Grand Slam Triangle Classic with battles against Arcadia University and the University of Lynchburg. The Big Red made quick work of Arcadia, winning 9-1 in just 5.0 innings of play. In the final game of the weekend, Denison took Lynchburg down to the final out, ultimately falling in a 2-1 decision. 

Up Next: Denison will have a 10-day break before traveling to New Concord, Ohio to battle Muskingum University in a double-header on Wednesday, March 19th.

Game 5: (Denison 9,  Arcadia 1) (5 innings)
The Big Red kicked off day three of the Grand Slam Triangle Classic with a mercy-rule 9-1 victory over Arcadia. Denison posted their nine runs on just five hits, capitalizing on ten walks. Madilyn Moffitt took the reins in the circle, only allowing three hits throughout the 5.0 inning showdown. The offense was led by the senior duo of Annabelle Calderon and Jacqui Abogado. Abogado cleared the bags with a two-run double in the first inning. The Big Red racked up five of their nine runs off of walks. 

Game 6: (Denison 1, Lynchburg 2)
The Big Red dropped a close fight with the University of Lynchburg Hornets. Denison tacked on the first run in the first inning off the bat of Jacqui Abogado. Lynchburg tied it up in the third off a base hit up the middle. The game remained knotted up at one apiece until the Hornets scored the go-ahead and final run of the game in the sixth inning. Brooke Surbaugh went the whole 7.0 innings in the circle for Denison. The offense was led by Giavanna Gangi who went 2-3.
