Granville, Ohio- The Denison Men's Basketball team travels to St. Louis, Mo. this Friday ahead of their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2016-17 season. After defeating The College of Wooster in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) tournament last weekend, they earned an automatic bid and punched their ticket to compete in the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships. The Big Red takes on Franklin College at 4:10 p.m. CST at WashU, in the first Round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships, on Friday March 7, 2025.
It has been a season to remember for the Big Red. They've recorded a program-record 24 victories, propelling them to their first-ever NCAC regular season championship title. Along the way to 24 wins, the Big Red also tallied the most consecutive games won in program history. In the conference tournament, Denison first faced Ohio Wesleyan, winning 74-70 in a back-and-forth nail-biter to advance to the tournament championship, where they dismantled the Fighting Scots of the College of Wooster 79-68. They finished the season ranked #18 in the country.
Notable accolades this season include:
- Senior forward, Ricky Radtke, and Senior guard Darren Rubin cracking 1,000 career points.
- 14-2 conference record
- First NCAC regular season championship title (the last conference regular season championship title for the Big Red was during the 1967-1968 season, when the Big Red were co-champions with Baldwin Wallace and still apart of the OAC)
- Saturday's NCAC tournament championship win was the second in program history, after the team won it in 2016
- Following the conclusion of the NCAC tournament, junior Aiden King earned the Al Van Wie Award (Tournament MVP)
- This week three members of the team were named to the All-NCAC teams, Ricky Radtke earned first team honors, Trevor Reed was named to the second team All-NCAC, and Darren Rubin earned third-team All-NCAC honors.
- Amongst all of the accolades, the Denison coaching staff were named NCAC Coaching Staff of the year after this historic regular season
