Cleveland, Ohio –The Denison softball team traveled to No. 15 Case Western Reserve for a non-conference doubleheader. Denison took an early lead in game one, but struggled to maintain momentum as Case Western capitalized on key innings, ultimately winning 9-1. In game two, the Big Red faced a tough challenge as the Spartans erupted for a 10-0 victory, limiting Denison's offensive opportunities. The sweep dropped Denison to 10-9, while Case Western improved to 14-7.
Game 1: (Case Western Reserve 9, Denison 1)
Denison struck first in the second inning when Jacqui Abogado launched a solo home run to left field, giving the Big Red a 1-0 lead. Case Western answered in the third with an RBI double to tie the game.
The Spartans took control in the fourth, plating two unearned runs to go up 3-1. A six-run fifth inning, highlighted by multiple RBI hits, extended the lead to 9-1, and Denison was unable to respond.
Game 2: (Case Western Reserve 10, Denison 0)
Case Western came out swinging in game two, scoring six runs in the first inning on a combination of extra-base hits, including two home runs. Another home run in the second pushed the lead to 7-0, and a three-run homer in the fourth sealed the 10-0 win.
Denison struggled to generate offense throughout the game, as Case Western's pitching staff kept the Big Red off the scoreboard.
