Granville, Ohio — The Denison softball team hosted Ohio Wesleyan for a conference doubleheader, securing two victories. Denison's offense exploded in game one, leading to a dominant 12-0 win, while game two remained competitive before the Big Red pulled away for a 5-1 victory. With the sweep, Denison improved to 12-9 on the season.
Game 1: (Denison 12, Ohio Wesleyan 0)
Denison's offense erupted in the second inning, scoring eight runs. Brooke Surbaugh led off with a single before Bridget Haller pinch ran and stole second. Leilah Ferrari reached on an error, bringing in Haller. Giavanna Gangi singled and advanced on a shortstop error, allowing Ferrari to score. Natalie Omahen singled to center, moving Gangi to third, then stole second. Brianna Gonzalez followed with an RBI single down the left-field line. After a groundout, Annabelle Calderon singled up the middle to score Omahen. A stolen base and throwing error brought home Gonzalez. Madilyn Moffitt walked and stole second before Jacque Abogado drove in Calderon with a single. Surbaugh capped off the inning with a two-run single, extending the lead to 8-0.
In the third, Moffitt delivered an RBI single, and Abogado sealed the win with a three-run homer to left-center, securing the 12-0 shutout.
Jacqui Abogado led the way in game one, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run. Brooke Surbaugh also had a strong performance, tallying two hits and driving in two runs. Annabelle Calderon and Brianna Gonzalez each contributed two hits and an RBI, while Madilyn Moffitt added an RBI and scored twice.
Game 2: (Denison 5, Ohio Wesleyan 1)
Game two was a tighter contest, with Denison taking a 1-0 lead in the third when Calderon reached on a fielding error, allowing Gonzalez to score. Ohio Wesleyan answered in the top of the fourth, tying the game at 1-1. Denison regained the lead in the fifth with an unearned run after Carley Melton reached first on an error, followed by an RBI single from Moffitt, making it 2-1. In the sixth, Emily Orsini added insurance with a three-run home run, scoring Omahen and Gangi to extend the lead to 5-1. Ohio Wesleyan couldn't mount a comeback, and Denison held on for the 5-1 win.
Emily Orsini led the way in game two, going 1-for-1 with a three-run home run. Brianna Gonzalez also had a strong performance, going 1-for-3 with a run scored. Carley Melton contributed a hit and a run, while Madilyn Moffitt added an RBI.
