Claremont, Calif.- Facing its third top-five team this spring season, the No. 4 Denison Big Red dropped its first match since February 22 to No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) 6-1. Denison dropped to 8-2 overall, while CMS improved to 14-2.
Much like their matchup against Amherst, the Big Red found themselves in a 1-0 hole after doubles. Once again, on court one, the duo of
Ethan Green and
Kael Shah defeated the Stags' Advik Mareedu and Josh Kim 6-3, shutting down a complete sweep of doubles matches.
In singles play, CMS quickly took control of the match, securing victories on courts one, four, and six to clinch the victory over the Big Red. Despite falling to the Stags early, Denison battled on the remaining courts. On court five, though he lost in straight sets,
Andreas Chapides played a much tighter second set, ultimately falling to CMS's Josh Kim 6-1, 6-4. On court two,
Kael Shah emerged victorious with a marathon win over Warren Pham, defeating Pham 7-6 (11-9), 6-3. In the day's final match,
Jacob Patterson fell to Matthew Robinson in three sets after taking the first set 6-3, then dropping sets two and three- 7-5, 1-0 (10-5). Â Â
