Cleveland, Ohio- The #25 Denison women's tennis team suffered its second 7-0 loss this weekend after falling to #16 Case Western Reserve University on the road. The Big Red dropped to 0-2 for the season, while the Spartans improved to 2-0.
Though the outcome wasn't what they had hoped, Denison hung with Case for most of the afternoon, forcing a pair of matches to three sets. In doubles play, senior Caroline Lopez and first-year Charlotte Johns defeated the Spartans' Katie Wong and Anna Kan 6-1 on court two, while on court three Dasha Chistyakova and Caroline Kittle battled till the end in their 7-5 loss to the Spartans' Elsa Syed and Laurel Utterback.Â
In singles play, Caitlin VanWinkle and Caroline Lopez took the first set on their respective courts, however, Case's Katalina Wang and Asha Shukla regained their footing and defeated VanWinkle 6-7 (1-7), 7-5, 1-0 (10-2), and Lopez 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 (12-10) respectively.
