Granville, Ohio- Denison men's swimming and diving continues to showcase why they are ranked No. 1 in the nation by CSCAA after defeating Kenyon College 178-122 at home on Saturday. The Big Red found its rhythm early, giving them the early momentum in the relays.
Diving Results
Denison Diving came out strong in its crosstown rival dual against the Kenyon Owls. Nick Fogle earned first place in both the 3-meter dive and 1-meter dive. Fogle scored a 308.33 in the 3-meter dive, with his sixth and final dive of the day being his best dive, a forward 2 ½ somersault pike (22.50 pts), to seal the top spot. Teammate Seamus McCann finished in third with a point total of 261.90, with his best dive (18.75 pts), also being a forward 2 ½ somersault pike. Rounding out the Big Red diving finishes was Brock Butchko who finished the day with 239.33 pts. Butchko secured the fourth-place finish thanks to an impressive fourth dive, a back 1 ½ somersault straight (18.75 pts).
In the 1-meter, Fogle notched his best performance this season, scoring 356.95, after nailing a back 1 ½ somersault 1 ½ twist free for 24 points. Just behind Fogle was McCann, who scored 252.15 points, with his best dive being a forward 3 somersault tuck, earning him 20.25 points. Butchko wrapped the meet with a fourth-place finish after scoring 238.58 points. His best dive, was his fifth dive of the day, where he executed an inward 1 ½ somersault pike for 19.50 points.
Top swimming performances:
Denison totaled nine first-place finishes across the meet and had 23 top-three finishes to keep the Kenyon Owls at bay for the morning dual. The Big Red kicked off the meet with a first-place in the 200 Medley Relay, after Jack Hill, Liam Nelson, Asher Cole, and Nick Hensel swam the relay in 1:30.67 for first-place.
Hill would earn two more individual first-place finishes in the 200 (1:39.92) and 100 (45.06) free. Also taking home two individual first-place finishes was George Goins who finished with the top time in the 1000 free (9:42.65), and in the 500 free (4:45.81). The remaining three individual top performers were Liam Nelson, who swam the 100 breast in 57.22 for first place, Max Lough swam the 200 fly in 1:52.41, and Teak Bunditkitsada, who finished the 200 breast in 2:06.67.
Bookending the first-place finishes was the 200 free relay team of Hill, Nick Hensel, Harry Parsons, and Benjamin Coverdale, who swam the race in 1:22.17, beating the Owls by a couple of tenths of a second.
